Speech and Language Therapy

What we do

The role of the Speech & Language Therapist is to assess children to see if they need any help with their feeding or communication.

Children may have:

Speech difficulties:       Difficulties using the right sounds

Language difficulties:  Finding it hard to understand what people say to them

Finding it hard to know the words to use or to put together in sentences

Difficulties showing people what they like/don’t like

Difficulties saying words and sentences so that they need a different type of                                         communication ie: signing

Dysfluency difficulties:     Like stammering

Feeding difficulties:      Includes biting, chewing, drinking and swallowing

The Speech & Language Therapist may see your child on their own or within class to help them decide if any help is needed.

  • Speech & Language Therapy within School
The therapist will see the children on caseload in school and decide on appropriate targets for your child to work on in school. Copies are sent home through school so that you can work on these targets too.

·        As well as working with your child and school staff, we can offer:-

o         training for staff/parents about communication and feeding

o         written reports for your child’s Annual Review

o         close working with school staff to make sure they remind your child about their targets during the day

o         advice and support to parents for those children who have communication and or feeding

At present, the therapist’s in school are:-        Jo Lawson and Emma Carter

If you want to speak to us, please ring school, or the department on 01724 289100
