School Meals
Lunch routine
There are two sittings for pupils at lunchtime in the multi-purpose hall. The youngest children (aged 3 to 8 years) have their lunch in the first sitting between 12.00 and 12.35. The older children have their lunch between 12.35 and 1.10. To view the current menu, please scroll down to the bottom of the page.
The pupils are taught to use the toilets, if necessary, and wash and dry their hands beforehand supervised by teaching assistants.
The pupils sit at table with teaching assistants. The meals are served out at table.
The meals are cooked on the premises. The cook is able to prepare alternatives to the standard meal such as liquidized or ground meals for children with feeding problems, vegetarian meals, meals without foods proscribed by religious observances, special diets prescribed by a medical practitioner, meals without foods to which a child has a severe allergic reaction, etc.
All pupils are given their full share of the portions of food provided by the kitchen staff, even if they may not eat it all. Pupils are encouraged to eat all of the food which is served. Pupils are never forced to eat their food if they really do not want it. They are encouraged to use cutlery and to behave appropriately by the teaching assistants. Pupils on prescribed diets may receive smaller portions.
Many pupils have specific feeding programmes. They are not unduly hurried to eat. Pupils will finish their meal under the supervision of a teaching assistant if they have not completed their meal by the time the majority of the children have finished and left the dining hall.
Some parents choose to send a ‘pack-up’ – a box or bag with a lunch prepared at home. This is perfectly acceptable. Children with pack-ups eat at the same tables as their classmates.
