School Transport
Home-school transport is provided for pupils at St. Luke's Primary School in accordance with North Lincolnshire Council's Policy on Home-school Transport for Pupils with Special Educational Needs.
The Council’s School Transport Officer assesses transport eligibility and need. Transport can take up to 20 days to arrange depending on the need for detailed risk assessment and provision of specialist transport. There is no guarantee that free transport will be provided.
If a pupil lives within statutory walking distance of the school (under 2 miles for under 8s and 3 miles for 8 years and over), they may not eligible for transport. However, it is possible to appeal this decision. Parents have to make plain what reasons that may prevent the child walking to school (e.g. behaviour, physical disability, medical need) and what makes them unable to take or transport their child to school themselves.
If parents have any questions and concerns about their child’s eligibility for transport or the way in which it is provided, they should contact the Education Transport Section at Hewson House (Tel: 01724 297218).
The school has no control over the home-school transport arrangements but the school staff are willing to work with the escorts and drivers to help resolve any difficulties they may be experiencing with the health or physical needs or behaviour of pupils.
If parents have any concerns about day to day home-school transport arrangements, they should try to resolve them by talking to the escort and driver. If this is unsuccessful, they should talk to the chargehand drivers who are the line managers for the drivers and escorts (tel: 01724 848553).

Collecting Your Child from School
From time to time, you may have to vary the arrangements for your child to be picked up at the end of the school day, for instance, because of a family event or going to relatives. If this is the case, please do let the staff in the office or in your child’s class know that this is going to happen and the name of the person who will be collecting him/her.
As an additional safety precaution, please let the school staff know a password of your own invention that can be used by the person who is collecting the child. This way we can be sure that the person is genuine. The office staff can make a note of this password on your child’s emergency contact details, so that it can be used again and again.

Driving Your Child to School
If you wish to transport your child to and from school in your car, you are welcome to do so. However, please ensure that your child is in class by 9.20. Also, lessons do not finish before 3.40 so I do ask that you do not take your child home earlier than this except by exceptional arrangement.
The school forecourt is very busy when children are set down and picked up. There is a 5 miles per hour speed limit.
You are welcome to arrive in school before 9.00 and before 3.25 if you wish to avoid the traffic queue. However, your child cannot be received in class before 9.05 and you must pick up your child no later than 3.50. You may wait in the Reception area.
Please do not park in the bus bays, marked with yellow lines. There are several car bays reserved for parent use. When these are full, you should use the car parking spaces in the general car parking areas.
When you drive onto the school site through the gates, you MUST immediately turn right into the car park and drive anti-clockwise around the car parking area until you can turn into the car bays.
You MUST NOT drive directly ahead when you come through the gates – there is a no entry sign.
If you find yourself in a queue of home-school transport, you must follow the directions of the staff who are controlling the traffic flow. They usually wear yellow jackets or coats.
