P.E.
Regular physical exercise is important for all pupils. Through physical education, they learn that it can be fun to be healthy and stay in shape. The aims of Physical Education (PE) are to:
1. develop physical skills of co-ordination, control, manipulation and movement essential for learning all areas of the school curriculum.
2. encourage physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.
3. ensure physical health and well being.
4. develop social skills within group activities where pupils have to co-operate with others appropriately, responding to competition, enjoying their successes and recognising and accepting any personal limitations.
5. improve safety awareness, confidence and self-esteem.
6. develop dressing and undressing skills and be aware of the effects of activity on their personal hygiene.
7. show how to follow the rules of games and how to move and play safely.
8. develop recognition of the sequences of actions involved in activities and encourage planning and anticipation of what to do next.
9. encourage decision-making.
10. develop pupils’ ability to express themselves and be creative.
11. promote team spirit and awareness that sport is for enjoyment.
Children with physical disabilities have mobility and movement programmes planned especially for them, but every effort will be made to involve them in the PE activities of the other children. They will also have opportunities for regular hydrotherapy in the school’s warm water pool.
Older pupils in Years 5 and 6 will have opportunities to attend swimming programmes at North Lincolnshire’s community pools.
All children will have opportunities to learn how to move rhythmically and expressively in dance, to play a range of games and to develop balance and agility and to sequence movements in low level gymnastic activities.
