Maths
Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem solving skills, and the ability to think in increasingly abstract ways. Mathematics is important in everyday life.
Particular aims are to:
· provide a broad range of mathematical experiences in relation to number, calculations, shapes, position and direction in space, measurement, time, money and data handling,
· stimulate an understanding of mathematical concepts
· encourage children to reflect on their experiences, interrogate, experiment and predict
· develop a range of mathematical skills and knowledge needed for every day life
· develop an appreciation of pattern and the ability to identify relationships
· heighten awareness of the importance of mathematics.
Mathematics is relevant to all pupils regardless of their developmental age and ability. There are many important things to learn before learning how to count and calculate. All pupils, including those with profound learning difficulties, will have opportunities to develop their awareness of events, patterns and quantities in their immediate world through experience or exploration.
