Communication With Parents

The school values effective links with parents. The staff and governing body try to communicate regularly with parents about the work of the school and the provision for their child. So far this has been done through:

 -      Establishing an open door policy which we have published for parents

 -      Being available via the telephone if parents need support

 -      Occasional newsletters

 -      Home-school diaries

 -      Regular opportunities for parents to meet with their child’s class teacher

The school is open to suggestions about improvements in home-school communication that can reasonably be made: for instance, the school website is being developed which will has ‘portals’ for parents and pupils. It is an aim to send out regularly sample parents’ views about the strengths and development needs of the school.

All parents are welcome to visit the school whenever they can. When they do so, they will be able to participate in lessons. The accommodation does allow parents to observe teaching activities discreetly without their child knowing that they are there but this has to be arranged in advance with the teacher.

Parents of prospective pupils are invited to visit the school and meet the members of staff and other pupils. It is hoped that this will help them make the decisions that they have to make about the education for their child.  If the local authority’s SEN officer determines that a child should be admitted to the school, a preadmission meeting with parents is always held to determine the child’s needs, strengths, appropriate learning targets and care strategies, and to provide parents with the information they require.
