Being a Lunchtime Teaching Assistant at St Luke's

At St Luke's we want candidates who are committed to being "Champions for Every Child" and want to make a difference to children's lives.

We offer a variety of hours for our Lunchtime Teaching Assistants, including 10 hour and 16 hour contracts.  The primary purpose of these positions is to support children at lunchtimes, in the dinner hall and during playtimes.  The 16 hour contracts also include an element of either classroom support or supporting children with specific interventions, including hydrotherapy or Rebound Therapy.  Lunchtime Teaching Assistants are required to support all aspects of personal care needs

Children Learn in their class groups throughout the day.  Some children may have specific interventions, such as hydrotherapy, speech and language therapy, sensory circuits or access to some of our sensory spaces.

Class sizes range from 8 children to 12 children, dependent on needs.  Each class has at least 3 Teaching Assistants, with some classes having more.

Support for Lunchtime Teaching Assistants

We have a Professional Development lead who will organise all of your training, whilst you are at St Luke's. We understand that most people who start at St Luke's may not have worked in a special school before and therefore we offer a comprehensive induction package.

Most of the training for Lunchtime Teaching Assistants takes place during the school day.

Our training includes the following areas:
  • Communication (Speech and Language) Training
  • Trauma Informed Practice
  • Meeting Sensory Needs
  • Understanding Child Development
