Being a Level 1 Teaching Assistant at St Luke's |
At St Luke's we want candidates who are committed to being "Champions for Every Child" and want to make a difference to children's lives.
The main purpose of this role is to develop your skills as a Teaching Assistant whilst working as a class based Level 1 Teaching Assistant. You will be provided with a comprehensive training package and support which will help you to develop your skills. Level 1 Teaching Assistants are required to support all aspects of personal care needs and support children in the classroom with their work, at lunch times and in other planned interventions throughout the school day. They work with pupils with a wide range of needs and with different age groups, from 2 years old to 11 years old. Children Learn in their class groups throughout the day. Some children may have specific interventions, such as hydrotherapy, speech and language therapy, sensory circuits or access to some of our sensory spaces. Class sizes range from 8 children to 12 children, dependent on needs. Each class has at least 3 Teaching Assistants, with some classes having more. No experience of working in a school environment is necessary for the Level 1 position as all the training will be provided as part of your induction package. |
Support for Level 1 Teaching Assistants |
We have a Professional Development lead who will organise all of your training, whilst you are at St Luke's. We understand that most people who start at St Luke's may not have worked in a special school before and therefore we offer a comprehensive induction package.
We have training or Team Time every Tuesday Night (4:00 to 4:50pm) and we have three training days and 4 twilight training sessions each academic year. We use these to support training and development. Our training and development package includes the following areas:
