Being a Behaviour and Relationships Mentor at St Luke's |
At St Luke's we want candidates who are committed to being "Champions for Every Child" and want to make a difference to children's lives.
We expect candidates who apply for the Behaviour and Relationship Mentor role to have considerable experience of working with children (usually in another school or nursery setting, either mainstream or special) and have an understanding of strategies to help children to regulate. The Behaviour and Relationships Mentor is a new position to St Luke's. We are looking for candidates who understand a Trauma Informed Approach to support children to regulate. The role will involve a range of activities throughout the school day. These will include:
A key part of the Behaviour and Relationships Mentor Role is being part of our Family Support Team. At present that includes the Deputy Headteacher, an Assistant Headteacher (who has responsibility for supporting families) and a Family Support Officer. We are also recruiting for a Sensory Mentor, who will also join this team. As a member of the family support team there will be an expectation that the successful candidate will take on a case load of families and support them through Family Support Meetings, Early Help Meetings, Child in Need Meetings or Child Protection Meetings. |
Support for Behaviour and Relationships Mentor |
We have a Professional Development lead who will organise all of your training, whilst you are at St Luke's. We understand that most people who start at St Luke's may not have worked in a special school before and therefore we offer a comprehensive induction package.
There will be different levels of support for this role. The Assistant Headteacher for Pupils will support with developing understanding of Trauma Informed Practice and understanding school systems to support positive behaviour. The Family Support Team will support with understanding the school's approach to supporting families. Training will include the following areas:
